Welcome to the Website of the Thegn-Hold of Siar Fordell! After becoming interested in some of the ideas of Micronationalism, with their emphasis on diplomacy, international relations, history, and politics, I have established this feudal microstate in the tradition of Anglo Saxon warrior nobles who, while semi-autonomous, maintained their allegiance to the nation as a whole.
Goals & Objectives: We in the Thegn-Hold of Siar Fordell established this state in order to provide a model and format for managing and expanding an existing estate in the most efficient, self-reliant, and enjoyable way possible. We seek to advance the causes of history, diplomacy, patriotism, service, self-reliance, and land stewardship through our shared experiences in Siar Fordell, and our interactions with the micronational community.
Motto: “Sola Virtus Nobilitat” – Virtue Alone Ennobles. This is also the motto of Clan Henderson, of which the Thegn is a sept member and has represented at the Highland Games. The motto encompasses much of what is held dear in Siar Fordell, honoring the concept of nobility, but acknowledging that nobility is gained only through force of character, will, and courage. Even those born to the nobility must earn it in order to be truly noble.
Siar Fordell: Fordell Castle in Scotland is the ancestral seat of Clan Henderson, with whom the Thegn associates. When the castle was damaged and taken by Oliver Cromwell, it eventually fell out of the Henderson clan. The Clan chief and his family moved into a town home (rather opulent for the day, but without the imposing force of a castle tower) which became known as Fordell house. The Thegn-Hold encompasses various named estates spread about the country and assumed the name Siar Fordell (Siar being the Scotch Gaelic for Western, or West) to identify the estate as a whole.
