The Castellans of Siar Fordell are the military commanders of garrison troops in any of the Thegn’s holdings. While the Thegn is the direct military commander, the Castellans are responsible for the military defense, arming, and structure of their assigned strongholds.
Castellans offer advice in war and defense, and are often part of the household troops that deploy when the Thegn enters into military service, but not always. It is typically a stationary title associated with a particular stronghold (such as the Castellan of the Phoenix Stronghold, or Castellan of Stoney Pointe) and when the Castellan marches out to fulfill a military duty elsewhere, his title remains behind to the new commander of the garrison. The title of Castellan can be held with other titles as well – the Steward can be appointed Castellan, for example, if the current Castellan deploys with the Thegn’s troops, or if his skills allow him to take on both roles.
The exception to this is the High Castellan, who maintains his position on the Thegn’s council and oversees overall defensive and training measures within the Thegn-Hold.
